Cecil County Mentors connects youth with consistent, caring adults who provide guidance, encouragement, and a trusted connection. Through meaningful, ongoing relationships, mentors help youth navigate challenges, work toward their goals, and know they have someone in their corner.

Every Mentoring Relationship Looks Different

For one youth, mentoring may mean having someone who listens, offers encouragement, and celebrates their progress. For another, it may mean talking through challenges, working toward goals, trying new experiences, or simply having a consistent, caring adult they can count on.

Cecil County Mentors is built around meaningful relationships that provide youth with guidance, encouragement, and connection. Mentoring is open to eligible youth in Cecil County, and foster care involvement is not required.

Youth ages 5-21 can be referred. Once a referral is received, program staff review the information, follow up to determine eligibility.

Once eligibility is confirmed, depending on mentor availability, our team begins the matching process to connect the youth with a caring mentor.

Connect

Mentor

Once matched, the mentor and youth begin building their relationship through regular time together. Mentors connect with their mentees 1–2 times per month, maintain weekly check-ins, and provide consistent guidance and encouragement along the way.

Volunteer Eligibility

Cecil County Mentors welcomes caring adults ages 21 and older who are ready to provide consistent guidance and encouragement to a youth. Mentors complete background checks and training and commit to the mentoring relationship for at least one year.

What It Takes to Be a Mentor

Mentors don’t need to have all the answers. They provide consistent guidance, encouragement, and connection while building a positive relationship with their mentee. Cecil County Mentors provides training and ongoing support to help mentors build meaningful relationships with the youth they serve.
